Universities Scheme

University Lodge, Sheffield welcomes students. For many years, lodges associated with the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge have been highly successful. Consequently, a few years ago the United Grand Lodge of England introduced the Universities’ Scheme. The scheme offers undergraduates and postgraduates the opportunity to join Freemasonry. The aim is to open up wider opportunities for undergraduates and other university members to join and enjoy Freemasonry. There are now over 50 Lodges across England, Wales and the Districts of United Grand Lodge.

Whilst the normal age limit for joining Freemasonry is 21, in the case of students, this limit is reduced to 18. In addition, following a recent decision of the United Grand Lodge of England reduced fees are charged to those aged under 25.

As students graduate from the Sheffield Universities they often move to other areas in the country – through the Universities Scheme we are able to help young men find a Lodge in their new town or City that will fit with their Freemasonry.
